Fulton House
by Mike Roth and Stanley T. White, copyright 2017
The Fulton House farm, birthplace of Robert Fulton, once covered 575 acres and included barns, a mill, a distillery and a tavern. The authors take the reader from the first European settler to the inventor’s birth, and then on through the generations of the Swift Family. Included are the establishment of Fulton House Post Office, the rise and decline of the village, the restoration and operation of the house as a State Museum, and the recent sale of the “Birthplace” to the Solanco Historical Society.
This is a 9” x 12”, 170 page “coffee-table” book, filled with color or sepia images throughout.
The authors have included the genealogy of the immediate members of the Fulton and Swift families of Fulton House.
Roth and White have added the history of the Solanco Historical Society, filled with photographs of various events and fund raisers and detailing how the Society has been connected with the operation of the museum for most of its existence.
This is an ideal read for any history buff and especially for anyone who is interested in Lancaster County, Pa.
